25.01.12 - We apologise for not feeding back sooner, but we are hoping to implement the Swap Shop & Transfer Times (newsletter)in the spring and will let residents know more in the next streets ahead.
Thank you to all those who attended the focus group, your thoughts and opinions were very helpful and very much valued. Feedback from the groups suggested that although the cash incentives for mutual exchanges are good, the introduction of more tiers reflecting the move to higher floor levels would also be good. Other negative points regarding the system were that the information available about mutual exchange is limited and out of date, that you are not allowed to exchange to another property of the same size if you are on the list for a larger property and that there is no option for over 55’s to move to a ground floor property if there is no medical need.
Ideas:
Swap Shops – The idea is that people will meet up and bring photographs of their property. All potential viewings will be recorded by HS and if required Lettings/TNO be available to be present.
There was a 50/50 split of whether the events should be monthly/quarterly. However, all agreed that it should be an informal event with minimal refreshments and to be held on a Wednesday between 6-8pm at HS. Other days and times may also be made available.
It was suggested that if the Resident did not attend at least 1 event per 6mth/yr, that their details should be removed from the mutual exchange list.
Residents at the focus group liked the idea that there would be a larger Swap Shop held yearly, which would involve more housing associations in order to increase options.M/EX Newsletter – The idea is that monthly or quarterly newsletter would be available, which would include a photo of each available mutual exchange property with a reference code, fuel comparisons of property sizes, rent comparisons, school admission catchment areas, information highlighting that you can mutual exchange if the downsize payment covers existing arrears and successful swap shop stories.
Cash Incentives - It was felt that the current payments, although generous, were not necessarily being used most effectively to the benefit to those in less desirable properties because of higher floor level.
It was discussed that we could introduce a more tiered payment system, to reflect this and encourage more mobility for this group.
Under occupation for older tenants was discussed and it was felt that a more personal approach may work better with this group as they would not be so pro active. Assisted moving was also suggested.
Other Ideas - It was felt there should be a separate list for over 55’s properties (not sheltered) that people above ground floor could join.
It was suggested that a yearly registration form should be completed and returned or residents would be removed from the mutual exchange list.
Everyone felt that more contact from Housing Solutions would be better and provide the opportunity to discuss/share problems or frustrations with other residents and us.

Information
Transferring Tenants Newsletter
We understand that waiting for a transfer in this area where demand far exceeds supply, can be a confusing and frustrating time. It is our aim to improve the way we communicate with our residents during this process by having more regular contact. We want to devise a newsletter that will empower residents through choice, information and transparency.
We need your help to make this something of real value that will make a difference. If you would be interested in joining us for a Focus Group to discuss this idea, please click on the button to the left to 'Take Part' or for more information call Jenny Cripps on 0800 876 6060.
