Bridgewater Housing is looking for new Resident Board Members
Monday, May 18 2009
Bridgewater Housing, a member of the Housing Solutions Group based in Maidenhead, is a not for profit company which specialises in the provision of sheltered and supported housing for older people with learning difficulties.
Bridgewater Housing is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of our residents by providing housing and services which help them to live independently for as long as possible. This means providing the right housing and support services so that they can continue to live within the community. Bridgewater Housing is at the forefront of building state-of-the-art accommodation and pioneering new technology to promote independent living.
Bridgewater Housing is looking for two new resident board members. As members of the board, new members will be ultimately responsible for ensuring good governance, the overall strategic direction and the legal and financial performance of the organisation.
The board meets 6 times a year in the evening and board members also attend strategy weekends twice a year. Resident board members work alongside other tenant appointees and independent board members. Resident board members will also be automatically appointed to the Residents’ Association Executive Committee, which meets monthly and works at an operational level with staff.

TSA National Conversation and MDHA Local Conversation – update!
Just to remind you:
The TSA is drawing up a brand new set of standards, which will be used to regulate landlord performance from Autumn 2009.
The TSA National Conversation was a nationwide three-month programme of resident consultation, which involved a combination of regional tenant and landlord events and engagement with prospective tenants and shareowners nationally across the Country.
The National Conversation came to a close at the end of March and the TSA have already announced some of the key findings from the consultations:
Regional Tenant Events
• Tenants had a polarised view on landlord performance
• Key priorities are around repairs and maintenance, good quality homes, affordable rents and keeping promises
• Visibility and accountability
• More and improved opportunities to involvement
• To work with TSA and landlords around choice
Landlord Events
• Clarity around what the standards framework will mean to them and what is expected from them
• Would like co-operation from the TSA in helping them to deliver on the standards
• Need an understanding of how the TSA fits in with other structures and partnerships that are in place.
• What will the impact and outcome be around the focus to the new regulation
Shared Owner Consultations
• Inconsistent practices, feels a standard lease agreement needs to be developed with clear set of responsibilities
• Not a tenure of choice, as no other options available that suited need
• Feel like not a priority to landlords and do not have the same rights, if any at all as other tenants
• To have an equal opportunity of involvement and say around the development of services as other tenants.
MDHA held three ‘local conversations’ on 19 February 2009, each lasting 90 minutes. 24 residents attended conversations on this day and a total of 64 residents completed the TSA paper questionnaire.
Based on the feedback we received from our residents, MDHA need to have the following service areas as their top priorities:
• Repairs and maintenance
• Customer service and dealing with complaints
• Looking after communal areas, security in the neighbourhood and dealing with anti-social behaviour
• Keeping residents informed and giving residents the chance to have their say
This feedback will now be reflected in the work of Maidenhead and District housing Association through the formation of corporate, departmental and individual objectives and continuous service improvement targets.

Grow Our Own!
Thursday, April 30 2009
Over the last year the Grow Our Own project has been assisting local job seekers and work returners across Windsor and Maidenhead back into the local employment market. Many have developed their job skills with vocational training or personal development courses that have included job searching skills as well as introductions to specific industries such as retail and hospitality.
Grow Our Own has two main aims:
Identify local residents who want to start, or return, to work locally and prepare them for employment.
Find out about new job opportunities across the local area
They offer services to local people that will help set you on the right track for employment - for example:
Personal development courses in motivation, CV writing and personal presentation
Vocation or general skills training to become ‘job ready’
They work closely with local employers to understand their recruitment needs and help them match their needs with the aspirations of local people seeking employment.
