MDHA and children from Courthouse School built a greenhouse made from plastic drink bottles. Jewson's donated materials and MDHA staff did the building work.On 23rd & 24th March 2010 MDHA staff and Courthouse school children spent their time building a greenhouse out of bottles to grow vegetables in. Courthouse school has got an active gardening club and had asked MDHA to help them promote recycling and healthy eating. The greenhouse reflects the recycling message as it was made out of emply 2 litre plastic bottles. Nearly 2000 bottles were used, which the children had been collecting for over a year. Pictures can be seen in the gallery.

Three new residents were elected onto the Executive Committee of the MDHA Residents’ Association at the Annual General Meeting.
The residents had put themselves forward as part of the open nomination process which all residents were invited to take part in.

There were five vacancies on the Executive Committee this year. Two members were standing for re-election and with three new nominees, all five were

automatically elected at the AGM to serve for a three year term.

Encouraging young people to be considerate to the needs of others around them and care about their community. We also wanted to provide activities for young people over the summer holidays.

Young people took part in a poster design competition to design a poster that could be used for advertising the RESPECT agenda to other residents. Discussions took place around young people’s ideas of what is a nice neighbourhood to live in and what respect means to young people. This generated discussions among friends and helped the young people recognise what impact vandalism, graffiti etc. has to the rest of the community they live in. They also designed their own RESPECT t-shirts.

This summer MDHA and RBWM Library Services bought books to the doorstep of Evenlode residents. There were lots of fun things to do for children and a chance to join up to the library and the Summer Reading Challenge.Friday 24th July MDHA teamed up with RBWM Library Services to hold a book festival at Evenlode. Despite the bad weather we were able to set up in the three bedroom show home, and were able to offer:

-	all residents, plus their friends and family the chance to sign up to the library as new members (10 new members were signed up on the day)

-	all children and young people the chance to join up to the “Quest Seekers” Summer Reading Challenge (8 new members were joined up on the day)

-	all parents the chance to pick up a Bookstart goody bag for 1 – 2 year olds (15 were given away on the day)

Plus there was a Story Time for the children, lots of arts and crafts to do and the Bookstart Bear (see photos in the General page of the photo gallery – the big blue bear is hard to miss!)

The library said that they felt it was one of their most successful outreach events and we hope to work with them again in the future.
