Active Learning for Residents - Gain an accredited qualification equivalent of a GCSE for FREE!
Thursday, 23rd June 2011
Want to get involved with our involvement opportunities and use your experiences to gain an accredited qualification? Then the Active Learning for Residents (ALfR) course is for you. ALfR was created by the Chartered Institute of Housing in order to help residents become involved with their housing association and reward them with a real qualification. The course takes 6 months to complete and you will receive a recognised qualification at the end of it, which will be the equivalent of a GCSE. It focuses on accrediting the skills you gain as you work to change your community for the better, enabling you to:
- tailor your learning to your surroundings
- work at your own speed
- reflect on real life challenges and successes
ALfR replaces traditional assessment methods with a process of recognition. You will have a recogniser from Housing Solutions who will observe, discuss, and evaluate your achievements throughout the course. We will guide and support you in acquiring credit towards this nationally recognised CIH qualification.
The qualification I would recommend for you to start with is the Level 2 Award in Community Action in Housing. You can then build on these skills to further qualifications if you so desire. The level 2 award is specifically designed to accredit the skills that you develop through being active in your community. It is made up of 3 modules, participating in community activities, looking at people and diversity in communities and researching services for communities. For each module you will need to find out certain information and evidence it through a wide variety of means that you can choose from such as photos, writing a job specification, conducting an interview with a member from a local agency like the police and more. This gives you the freedom to learn in a way that most suits you.
The training we provide will be free for you and you can do it at your own speed. If you are interested in this course or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact community liaison on 01628 543123 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
