Floating Support’s Allotment
Thursday, 31st March 2011
On Friday 25thMarch the Floating Support Service organised an allotment kick start day at the plot which is rented at Courthouse Road. Andrew, Ona and Aarti were joined by several service users and colleagues to help clear the site and prepare the ground for planting now that Spring is officially upon us. The Floating Support Service provide invaluable support work to vulnerable clients who have a mental health issue and part of their work is to encourage service users to engage in more meaningful activities such as employment, training, voluntary work and social activities. In order to assist this objective Housing Solutions rent an allotment to learn about growing fruit and vegetables and have an open space to get out to and to meet other people. After the a mammoth amount of digging some of the people got down to planting onions, carrots and leeks. The service users hope to meet up once a week and anticipate having regular crops throughout the year.
